Product Description

The 5x5 Gear Cube (originally designed by Oskar and marketed by CubeTwist) is a very impressive-looking 5-layered gear puzzle. It features good turning and a solid, sturdy feel. The stickers have been printed onto the cube, so they are prone to chipping and may come a bit tattered-looking right out of the box, but they are reasonably durable if not scratched.

This cube features the official Oskar and CubeTwist logos on the yellow side. It also comes in official CubeTwist packaging, with extra padding that helps preserve the quality of the printed stickers.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Eh

I must say, this is much better than the z brand, but this is still not very good. It is super stiff and tight, and the painted stickers are very prone to chipping. If you are looking for an interesting min WCA puzzle, go ahead and buy it.

Decent Once Broken in

This puzzle doesn't turn great out of the box, but once it has been broken in, it turns a bit better. A flaw that won't go away with time is the problem with the gears skipping. The gears skip quite frequently, and when they do, the whole layer becomes much harder to turn. In addition, if you do turn it, things will likely break. Gears on moving pieces have the potential to break off entirely, and center pieces can have teeth break off. The latter can be fixed with super glue, and the edge gears can be put in and stay in from friction. The center gears however, cannot be put back on. So, if you decide to get this cube, make sure that any gears that skip are fixed immediately.

Only for collection

The cube looks cool, but the small gears in the middle are easily misaligned, therefore forcing you to take apart the whole thing. There also isn’t much online about the cube, which shows how many people have avoided it altogether.

Made poorly: turns horribly with inaccurate tolerances..

This puzzle is absolutely awful. I had hopes that other reviews were wrong, but with every turn you make it reveals that there are gross inconsistencies with tolerances in the mechanism. Eventually with normal play, the puzzle becomes unplayable, and once the gaps get wide enough, no rows or columns are safe to turn without risking structural instability.
In my opinion it is dishonest for any company to even offer this for sale, as every copy is likely to be just as defective. Buyer beware.
