The GuHong is the cube that launched DaYan's presence into the market. Despite the introduction of many additional cubes in the DaYan line, the GuHong remains a top choice. Here's why so many people like it:

  • Fast and controllable
  • Hint of crispy feeling
  • Incredibly flexible with corner cutting
Also, the feel of this cube can drastically change after modding. With the help of some sanding and lubing, it can go from crispy and quick to smooth and gummy, if that's what you're into. As far as we know, this is the Swiss Army knife of cubes. It's flexible, highly useful in many situations, and is also extremely dangerous (to your competitors, of course).

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Pops a lot unless I use tight screws and dry gun lube.

So I got this cube back in the day when there was only this one, and the Dayan V2 with torpedoes. I never got the torpedoes, but I have had many pops when solving aggressively. As a learner cube, it was great because it taught me to not cut corners! I've had to learn the algos very well, and I still use this cube today! I did a small mod to remove some material around the feet on the edge pieces. Also, there are tons of people who say this cube pops a lot. To them, I say, use dry lube, tighten your screws, and don't corner cut like a bi**h! lol. I never competed with this cube, nor did I get my PB with it. That goes to the Dayan Zanchi. This is a good toy for the money, It has lasted me many years, and hundreds of solves.

THERE ARE BETTER BUDGET 3x3s ON THE MARKET

This was my first speed cube, and it was fine when I was still above a minute. Now that I am under 20 seconds, I have no use for this. The corner cutting is bad, the plastic gives a catchy feel that does not go away. Loosening it only leads to pops, and it slows down solves significantly.

If you want a budget 3x3, I would recommend hands down the little magic 3x3. $2.99, and my pb of 13 was set on it. Very good. Buy that. Not this. Please. Don’t waste your money on this.

No matter what your skill level is, there are better AND CHEAPER 3x3s out there.

Somewhat good

This cube is what I consider to be the grandfather of the modern speedcubes. Yes, the Rubiks brand started it all and there were "speed cubes" on the market that were faster than a rubiks. This, however, blew everything out of the water by a country mile. Keep in mind that this cube was created back in 2010, when the Alpha V and F2 still dominated the market. This cube was probably the first that could cut 45 degrees with ease if the tensions were loose. This cube was also a star in reverse cutting. The largest problem is that this cube pops A LOT!!! There was the screw mod that would make the popping go away, but you needed some technical know how to get them installed. This cube was clearly the fastest six years ago. This cube (unmodded) was made obsolete by the ZhanChi to most people. To the people who stayed, the GuHong V2 came out and that was the last nail in the coffin. If you want a GuHong, get a V2. This thing pops way more and other than that the two versions are identical. Still, this is an interesting part of speedcubing history.

Amazing Collectors Piece

As a collector of twisty puzzles, these old Dayan Cubes are like gold to me, and this cube doesn't disappoint. Out of the box, this cube was...actually pretty smooth! I wasn't really expecting it, but it turned pretty well and I was able to drill a few algs (although not as fast as I'd wish to turn) with only a few pops here and there. Mine is definitely a new plastic cube so it's not as smooth or good as I assume the old plastic Guhongs are, but I'm still very happy with this cube. My only complaint is that one of my green stickers started to chip rather quickly. Pros and Cons listed below :)

Pros:
Great collector item
Turns pretty smooth for a cube of its time
Pretty easy on the wallet

Cons:
Pops easily (this can be remedied with torpedoes and/or by making the cube slightly tighter)
Not old plastic
Stickers might be dull for some but I love them

Overall, if you can find this cube, I highly recommend you buy it. It's a great collectors item and is truly the first modern speedcube to exist, straying away from the standard Rubik's knockoff design that many puzzles like the Type A (Guojia) and Type C (Witeden) had. This is by no means a speedcube that you'd bring to competitions, but I still love this cube with all my heart.
Pictured below is my Guhong V1 and Lingyun V2 both in the box.

eh

I got this as a Gift from my auntie. It OK But the only problem with it is that if you try to corner cut to far it will pop.I would get a pop 2 in every ten solves. But is good if it is your first speed cube.

Only a cube worth having if you have experience with it and prefer it

This was the first speed cube that I got close to 6 years ago and I have been using it since then and it still does well for me.

Other reviewers bashing on it about how often it pops are definitely not wrong, but if you have been using this cube for as long as I have that issue goes away on its own. The only time I ever see pops anymore are if I had it to someone else.

My times are not amazing and never will be. ~18 second averages on this cube but I am considering purchasing a new guhong so I can let this old one retire

Overall Pretty Good,

It's a pretty good cube, I bought it three days ago. The turning is smooth and controllable. The corner-cutting is just under 45 degrees. But although is is smooth, it does pop very easily because it has no torpedos. It pops on average 3 times a day so that's the only down-side.

But other than that, I definitely recommend this as a first cube if you just starting. If you are more of a faster cube solver, I would recommend a higher tier (rank) cube. It is my first cube and it works great (for a beginner). ;)

Awesome!

I can solve a cube in a little under 2 minutes and this cube is great for that. It is definitely my favorite cube and for any one who solves in about 2 minutes this cube is great for you.
