Product Description

The mf8 Skewby Copter Plus is a combination of a skewb and a curvy copter plus and turns as such. Combining moves from both mechanisms results in jumbling combinations previously unreachable and adds an extra level of difficulty in the solve.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Fantastically designed puzzle

The Skewby Copter plus is an amazing feat of design. By combining a curvy copter plus with a skewb, it adds multiple levels of additional complexity and creates a new, unique puzzle challenge. For example, doing a half skewb move unlocks a completly new turning option not available on any other curvy copter. And that's just one of many new features the skewb turning introduces. But even if the skewb features are a bit too daunting for you, it is still worth purchasing as it is quite simply the best designed curvy copter on the market. This puzzle is designed so it is virtually impossible to bandage. When jumbled, pieces that would collide on a normal curvy copter slide right by each other. The only issue I have had with this puzzle are some of the small edge pieces falling out when doing jumbling moves. Really it was just one edge piece that kept falling out. Gluing the sides of these edge pieces together solves that problem. But everything else has been great. The turning is really smooth and the stickers are high quality. I recommend this puzzle to anyone who likes a challenge.

Excellent puzzle with an excellent design

The Skewby Copter Plus is an excellent puzzle that even improves upon the regular curvy copter design. It has cuts that curve outwards more, allowing more moves to be made without having to force it to move. On top of that, this puzzle is an excellent puzzle to figure out how to solve on your own. You can figure it out one step at a time, each time going further and further into the scramble. This makes it a rather intuitive puzzle to solve. Along with everything else, this puzzle is very fun to solve. It doesn't get very repetitive, unlike other puzzles, and it turns great. This puzzle has a great price for what it is: a hybrid puzzle that is an absolute joy to solve.

Amazing cube for torturing a Rubik’s cube fan

So I’ve got a buddy who loves solving traditional cubes and some of the harder variants. I originally bought him the gigaminx hoping he would struggle with it but he solved without issue so I knew I had to step it up. I did some research into the hardest cubes and skewby copter kept being mentioned, after looking up the YouTube videos of it I knew it was the one. Upon giving it to my friend some of his comments have been “it’s just a swirling vortex of colors”, “I will never solve this”, “Whoever invented this thing is a psycho”.

This cube has given haw truly given me a great level of entertainment as my friend still struggles to crack its code. I would 100% buy it again and I couldn't be happier.

Catches sometimes, and if you force it, it's a gaurenteed explosion of tiny pieces...

I haven't been able to try figuring out how to solve it once fully scrambled, because once I start turning a bit faster, something gets slightly misaligned and it explodes again and again. The corners/edges aren't curved enough to have any reverse corner cutting whatsoever, so just be gentle...

Still, it's a cool mechanism, and I like showing it to people. But I just can't actually use it normally :(

I got the black version, not stickerless, in case that makes a difference.

Best Curvy puzzle out there

I had heard this was a great puzzle to get and it doesn't disappoint. I have solved many different curvy copter mods and I love them, but some - I'm looking at you Copter+ and FlowerCopter - are tedious solves because the mechanism is a pain. This copter is an improved version of the Curvy Copter Plus and you should get it instead. I also adds skewby moves that work smooth and slick. I have done some copter and copter plus solves on this and it was a smooth experience.

And I now have the new Skewby moves to add in and get the rest of what this puzzle offers. It's practically the only Curvy Copter you need.

amazing, if slightly flawed

An excellent upgrade to the Curvy Copter Plus: no overhang bandaging! Protruding jumbled pieces, even rotated face centers, don't collide with other pieces or catch easily. Even if you never use a skewb move, it is already superior to the Curvy Copter Plus in this way.

Note: I have the black plastic version with stickers.

Edge turning is amazingly smooth for a puzzle of this complexity. Skewb moves are rather stiff, even after lubrication, and require fairly precise alignment of pieces. Out of the box, it seemed somewhat over-lubricated, but very little seems to have remained on the sliding parts of the pieces. I put some weight 5 silicone oil on the pieces, which seems to help.

Drawbacks: some pieces that should have been glued are not. After reading and watching some other reviews, I consider this to be a design flaw. I didn't receive an answer to my question about this, even after a follow up email.

The wing edges come apart quite easily during a normal edge turn on an adjoining edge. One triangle of each wing edge is on a thin piece that slides into the other part that hooks into the core. After gluing the loose wing edges, the puzzle behaves very well.

Corner pieces are made of 3 parts that are not glued. This won't be a problem in normal use, but they can distort when pieces catch, possibly contributing to a pop. I guess you could lose reference to the color scheme if all of your corners come apart during disassembly.

Other reviews mention face center triangles popping easily, but I did not experience this.

There seems to be a fair amount of burrs and flash on the pieces that cause minor catches, but they seem to be smoothing out during break in.
