LBL Designs GAN15 Spring Conversion Kit

Product Description

The LBL Designs GAN15 Spring Conversion Kit is an easy way to make your GAN15 more controllable. The springs add a bit of friction to the centers and make corner cutting more predictable. Our green plastic isn't going anywhere, but these parts are printed from a material that better resists the type of strain that they experience. Washers are also included for extra durability. It can be installed in a few minutes and is completely reversible if you find that you prefer MagLev.

Please note that this kit removes the ability to adjust the cube's center travel, but it was carefully tuned to a travel distance that should work well for most people.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Great option if you want a stable Gan 15!

I initially received the spring conversion kit without knowing how to install them properly in the Gan 15. I highly recommend watching their tutorial video on YouTube, otherwise you might end up with a cube that doesn't feel as it should.

However after spring swapping, my Gan 15 felt very stable! Very much so that I had to lower the tension to level 2. This is a great alternative if you find the maglev making your cube too flexible for your liking, or you're experiencing the rolling centers issue that some copies of the Gan 15 have. Its tight to a level where the auto-align isn't as strong as the maglev, but it makes it easier to solve on since it slows down the cube significantly.

I suggest that y'all should pick these up. In my opinion, it makes the performance comparable or even better than the Gan 12.

No instructions confused with install.

I have nothing negative to say about this kit however I am confused on the install. There are no instructions that come with it and nothing on the YouTube. Guess I will wait to install this until there is.

Sorry about that! We are working on getting a video up as soon as possible.

Not so good

I recommend the original Maglev.

An interesting change, but this cube shouldn't have springs

Have given this setup about 500 solves and a lot of tinkering. I am new to GAN cubes and there definitely was a learning curve with the speed and less stability, but this spring conversion kit just ain't the solution.

The setup was a bit cumbersome, but I blame that more on the GAN design than this kit. Just be sure that the center pieces are locked in, lest you get an entire cube pop (which happened to me only once)

Now for the feel. I had to switch out the corner magnets to the weakest ones (blue) and put it on the lowest tension (1). That was the only way to get the cube to feel usable IMO. Even then it's still too tight. It won't corner cut past 45 which is unforgiveable in a modern day cube (let alone a GAN flagship).

The cube is absolutely more stable, but at the cost of much needed corner cutting and speed, which is sort of the GANs whole appeal. You trade out one less tension setting for added spring maintenance, and the cube just feels clunky and not flexible enough.

Personally, I'll be switching back to maglev. This kit definitely has an interesting feel that someone might like, but I think it goes against the intentions of this cube. Maybe lighter springs could be better, but I've been using maglev in my last 2 mains and don't miss spring noise or the added setup/lubing of springs.

Qc is suspect

Only one of the seven included 3d printed pieces actually held onto the core. No matter how much I flexed the layer, like in the video, they would still easily rotate. This led to my gan 15 exploding, sending pieces of my 60 dollar puzzle all across the room.

Hi Elden,

Thanks for your review, and I am sorry to hear about your experience with this kit. 3D printing is not perfectly consistent, but it is incredibly unlikely for 6/7 parts to be defective. The kits use the exact same parts as the Pro Shop spring 15 and it's very rare for us to have issues with them. That being said, they are produced with very little clearance and they need to be aligned perfectly before flexing the layers. I still sometimes struggle with installation myself. If you reply to this message with some pictures of the cube with parts that aren't fully seated, I'll do my best to help, and if we can't figure it out, we can refund your kit purchase.
