Product Description

This DIY Core Magnetic Kit from Cubers' Home can convert your standard or maglev RS3 M to have corner/core magnets. This allows for more control and an extra magnetic feel characteristic of expensive flagships.

This kit is compatible with all versions of the MoYu RS3 M 2020 and MoYu RS3 M 2021

Note: There has been a recent change to the MoYu RS3 M 2020 corners that could affect the compatibility of this kit. Please make sure to only use this kit on RS3 M 2020s with the original corner design (see images for details).

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, yet

Kinda for grins, kinda to save a couple dollars (within pennies of $2 compared to buying the fully assembled Cuber's Home version), I bought a RS3M 2020, the MagLev kit, and this core magnet kit. My kit came with one broken tab on the core pieces. With the other three, it holds together well. I was prepared to glue the core pieces together if need be, but that proved unnecessary. Given the comments I've seen others make, it seems like there is a quality control issue here with the kit arriving with broken tabs. I attempted to just use friction for the corner magnets, but a couple of them would pop out as I turned the cube. Thankfully, they didn't get loose in the mechanism, but you could hear them clicking as the got attracted to the core magnets as I turned. A little super glue fixed that. While I was at it, I glued all of them in so I wouldn't have to worry about magnets working themselves out. Garden variety cyanoacrylate super glue worked fine and I found more than I need at a local dollar store.

As for turning the completely assembled puzzle, I've not yet decided if I like it compared to the stock 2021 (I do prefer MagLev over springs). As of this writing, I've not added extra edge magnets. I've added them to the rest of the RS3M cubes I have as I do feel they add just the right amount of strength over stock. This core kit adds a similar amount of magnetic strength, but in a different direction. Given the distribution of the magnets, it should be a more even and balanced feel. It's entirely possible, I can't properly discern any real difference. It's also possible the lube I use (The Cubicle's silicone weight 3) is too thick to overcome the magnets so I can't tell if anything is happening. I may get a lighter lube and try again.

Overall, I don't regret my decision to buy this kit. I may do it again in the future and retrofit other cubes I already own (or decide to buy in the future).

Neat Upgrade, with some things to know...

I was able to put this into one of my MoYu RS3M 2021 MagLev cubes easily. The result was a cube that felt 'evenly' magnetic all around and is different feeling than just adding more edge magnets. You can even go all out and do extra edge magnets, this core upgrade kit, and MagLev upgrade (or a rs3m 2021 MagLev puzzle as the base), much like how TheCubicle's youtube video on their 100 magnets video did it.

However, I preferred having only either edge or magnetic core in the puzzle, and not both. With the edge magnet upgrade kits, it is easy to remove those if it isn't your thing. This kit however I don't think you could remove the core or the super-glued corner magnets (or at least I didn't try).

Installing this mod wasn't that hard. You can follow along with the video TheCubicle put up as a guide. The corner pieces securely insert and push down into the corner pieces well with a snug fit, and as long as you use a generous amount of super glue in them, they should stay in there. Also, be careful with getting any super-glue finger prints on your pieces! Installing the core involved screwing off two opposite faces of the cube, then having the two halves of the core come together with the tabs on different sections and then PRESSING HARD, for them to snap together. I was kinda scared of breaking the tabs with how hard I had to press, as I was trying to be gentle and careful the whole time.

Then I put the puzzle back together, then I noticed it makes this sort of sound when starting to turn the faces. I think this has to do with the plastic parts of the corner magnets rubbing against the core, which shows why there is this white powder that appeared on the inside. I applied silicone lube (as I am pretty sure silicone lubes are better for hardware like magnets and screws), like weight 5, on where the core and corner magnets meet, and this very much improved turning and sound for me.

I can say that this made one of my (already really good) MagLev cubes a lot more enjoyable to solve on! With this and a regular RS3M 2020, it would be the cheapest cube that has corner-to-core magnets at around $20, compared to Cuber's Home X-Man Tornado V2 with its magnetic core and corners for $40 and the Gan 11 M Pro or Duo for around $45 to $60-ish. If corner and core magnets sound like a neat thing you want to try and don't mind trying out a DIY method on the cheap, this is a good choice.

Makes a Great Cube Even Better!

This core magnet kit is TOTALLY worth it! Thankfully my pieces weren't broken like others have complained about although you do need to be careful when putting it together so you don't break the two core pieces when snapping them together.. don't force them!

Crazy though, one of the corner pieces of my RS3M didn't have the little hole to put the magnetic piece into (the stem piece was plugged - defect in mfg) so I had to drill the hole out to fit it but it all worked out.

Between the two, I would recommend adding core magnets vs additional edge magnets and the Maglev kit is awesome too if you want to eliminate those crunchy spring sounds. Honestly though, you're not really saving any money so if you want all the bells and whistles in the RS3M, I'd just buy the CH version ready to go.

Excellent upgrade for the money!!

This upgrade setup makes the rs3m snappy and more stable. I’m a sub 1 cuber but after the magnet installation I set it up to my liking and I was able to speed up 10 seconds. The only thing I would recommend is to make the corner magnets 1mm longer to get a closer contact with the core so it aligns better. I added 3x1 mm magnets to the existing ones and it works like a charm. Other than that, I highly recommend it for anyone who likes magnets.

Great product !!!!

I customized three moyu RS3M using this kit and two maglev kits … so I now own three mag lev mag core budget cubes ….. I also added extra internal magnets to all three …. Although the cubes are heavier, now with all the magnets I can have them super lose and the magnets keep them super usable

Too fragile

This magnetic core and corner set turned my maglev rs3m with additional edge magnets into a beast. It adds so much stability to the cube it’s unbelievable. I like my cubes a little on the loose side so I am always weary of pops and corner twists due to my slightly aggressive turning style. With the added stability of the magnetic core/corners, I no longer fear pops and twists.

So you may be asking why only 2 stars, and that would be because my core arrived with broken clips. I knew it could be a possibility base on the many reviewers who also received their with broken clips as well. I received a core with 3 out of the 4 clips broken. I ended up super glueing the core together and that worked just fine. I figured trying to exchange it for another could yield the same results. The core clips are extremely fragile and seeing as this is thrown into a bubble mailer along with anything else you may have ordered it’s bound to break. What’s to say the clips aren’t already broken when it’s grabbed out of a bin to prepare for shipment. In all honesty I believe the Cubicle should find a better way of packaging such fragile items to ensure the customer receives an intact item. I honestly can’t recommend this. If you are good having to super glue it the by all means get it. Or just by the CH RS3M with it pre installed. $10 is a lot for this considering the flimsiness of the item. I included a photo for you to see the magnet on the corner piece and the core.

Thanks for your review! We are aware that breakage is a concern for this item, and we are happy to provide replacements for unusable units. We have found that the cores work fine with 1-2 broken clips, but we are willing to work with anyone who has problems with this item.

Neat idea, needs better execution

Likes others have said, this looks like it is 3D printed and the parts are broken when it arrives. It is supposed to be 2 halves, instead I got 1 halve and the other halve was in 4 pieces. Try super glue it together, that did not work.

I would say best to skip this. If you want a mag core, get a mag core cube to make sure it works as expected.

Works great but arrives 50% broken

I’ve order four sets total of the Core Magnets. They work great once installed! The actual material feels like cheap 3D printed plastic which tends to break during installation or is already broken when it arrives.
A small box is recommended to protect the delicate pieces instead of a small ziploc pouch.

Can’t wait for additional cube magnets for different cube manufactures.
